Fake News, and Now, Fake Guys Getting Their Foot Run Over

OK, OK, maybe i watch a little too much TV. And i know fake news is a genuine concern, and i've signed the online petition, though, full disclosure, i didn't "pass it along to friends." But perhaps i've uncovered something more insidious. Yes, people, I'm talking about fake commercials. There is a State Farm commercial in which the insurance agent announces, "This is a true story." And then a wife drives over her husband's foot. Now, all my years of TV viewing have trained me to believe that the State Farm agent is an actual State Farm agent. But here's the catch. The guy who gets his foot run over? I remember him from a Saturn commercial last year! Ok, fine, it's a re-enactment of a true story. Unless the ACTOR actually got his foot run over. By a Saturn. I told you I watch too much TV.

Dammit, I knew that I recognized the guy who drove his car into a lake. The story of the agent/salvage diver inspired me to switch insurance companies and now I feel cheated.

I also recognized him from something. Made me doubt the whole commercial.

how many times can you say 'I' in 1 entry? Obviously a lot. Your right, weblogs are for vanity purposes, especially your entry. there is no blog with writing as bad as the first 3 sentences of this.

I'm sorry you didn't enjoy my attempt at humor! Thanks for reading, anyway.

They said it was a true story, not that it was the actual people involved. Yes, the husband and wife are actors, and yes, it is misleading.

You are missing the better part of what makes that such a bad commercial. Why would they need to use their auto or home insurance? What about their health insurance. Ok, maybe if they didn't have any. With all that other really expensive insurance, you would think they have health as well. And, what idiot would file a claim, imagine what their premiums would be after that. Maybe the husband sued the wife for pain and suffering.

Anybody know who the guy is? I think I lived across the street from him a couple of years ago, but I can't remember his name right now.

I thought I could find it on the Internet, but this was as close as I could get.

I agree that those State Farm "true story" commercials are a little misleading, though.

you are correct....
i didnt think other people watched as much tv as i did
I just saw the guy who "got his foot run over" in a swiffer commercial
he is on the phone with his "wife" (not the woman from the state farm comm) doing baby talk while cleaning the house
state farm is misleading us...i thought those slobs were playing themselves

The girl from the commercial was a guest star on E.R. tonight. I didn't catch her name in the credits. Seems like she might become a regular.

If she is playing a doctor, i hope the guy lands a guest spot as a guy who is rushed into the E.R. after his foot is run over.

Well, I see nothing wrong with the actors doing a commercial which might be a re-enactment. If you take that 100% seriously then you are the one with the problem, not State Farm.

Many companies do this... who cares? I just hate commercials altogether, they are all annoying and stupid.

The guy has been in many, many commercials. I've also seen him in one or two movies (one of them was some sort of teen/college party movie but I don't remember which one, he was at a party drinking and acting the same as he does in those commericals). He's also been on at least one episode of Reno 911.

I've seen the girl, too. But I don't remember where...
