Ferdinand, My Hero

Instead of charging in after bad guys, our president could take a page from "The Story of Ferdinand" about a bull who refused to be drawn into a bullfight, despite all the hype, and preferred instead to sit under a cork tree and smell the flowers. Images


Published in 1938, the book works on a number of different levels--as a Buddhist tale of enlightenment, as pacifist inspiration, and according to one website, even as a positive gay role model (click the link for further discussion of the gayness of other Disneyfied characters) .

YAY Ferdinand - the hero of one of my all time favorite books! What a great end to my cold Ohio day to see this posted on a web blog! We should all take a cue from this timelessly beautiful story.
