Wizard People update
This just in: Warner Brothers has contacted every theater in the country scheduled to show Wizard People, Dear Readers and threatened to cut off all ties with the venues unless they cancel their screenings. (See previous post) Nice, huh? Personally, if I were (Wizard People creator) Brad Neely, I'd start holding screenings with DVD copies of Harry Potter in clubs and bars. This movie is just too good for people not to see.

Having seen "Wizard People" last year at the NY Underground Film Festival I am incensed but unsurprised that Warner would go all jackboot on something that in no way threatens their copyright. Perhaps the issue is that the venues would be charging admission, at least part of which would be due to WB. All right, then show it for free. There's no way anyone with more than a couple braincells to rub together would confuse Neely's narration for anything official. I just think they can't stomach the competition.
I plan to talk with the people at Rififi/Cinema Classics here in NYC about screening "Wizard People" for free sometime soon. I'll tip you guys off if that comes to pass.

Dear Mr. Brad N...
This is so sad...I am an aging flower child...yes...and as if that is not sad enough...what with the state of things and such...oh, and that we "failed to paint it black" as Bruce Robinson once said....THEREFORE, I am taking you up on your sweet note at the end of the tape... writing to you to CONGRATULATE you on the AWESOME WIZARD PEOPLE....I have listened to it FAR too many times...LAUGHING out loud...in my car....and with the video as well, of course, ...and I must say that you are UP there in my heavens with "Monty and Mad" and gee WHILLIKERS your voice is perfect, isn't it???
Thank you for the many many laughs AND yes...it is ESSENTIAL THAT WE APPRECIATE TALENT and be ACTIVE enough to SAY something about it...in short, THANK YOU.
