Axing corporate graffiti, part II
The Chicago Reader has a followup to the Axe "graffiti" billboards defaced in Chicago a couple of weeks ago. (Story available here as a pdf.) The billboard went back up shortly after Edmar's crew painted over it, but now other people have stepped up to deface it.
What's interesting here is that, as an anonymous reader points out (echoing the Reader's Liz Armstrong), the city of Chicago "claims it DOES NOT distinguish among signage, murals, advertising, or tags. In their eyes, graffiti is graffiti. The only way any art or 'art,' in the case of this Axe ad, technically gets to stay up is if the owner of the building contacts the city and asks if it can stay."

Am I the only one who finds irony in the fact that the Reader made sure to include a very street art inspired ad with the PDF?

There is a term for people who don't live other people/companies solely because they wield some form of control/power/money...haters. Quit hating... this isn't communism this is a republic which operates under the free market system...if someone doesn't like something they don't have to buy it....if everyone stopped eating at McDonalds it would go away...understand...don't blame Axe for advertising...thats what people do in this economy..blame the people that blindly buy products not because of quality but because the are programmed to buy.....I'm sure the guys who painted over this wouldn't be too disatisfied if all black billboard/advertising became popular and they got rich off of it...and I surely wouldn't hate on them...
