Accutron 2000

The robot thing below just reminded me something I wrote years ago (circa 1996) about Accutron 2000, the Matador Records robot. It was for Matador's newsletter and, lo and behold, it's still online.

No idea what Accutron 2000 is up to now. Last I heard, he was laid off and converted into an end table.

no no no, carrie, the accutron dude is happily employed by the mayor's olympics 2012 committee. i think he's tryna get robots to be allowed to run in the marathon (a not very popular idea among the humans, to say the least)

Incorrect, Herb and Carrie. As I understand it, the Accutron is in Austin where it has been converted to a rotisserie for Gerard.

while we're o.t.-ing, i saw MATADOR ribbon-magnet on a street pole in soho. it sez "god bless matador" and has red/white/blue in ref to the 7/4 free concert they're having at battery park (w/L.CANTRELL, S.MALKMUS, YLTengo) - it just reminds me of the excellent "support our pants" ribbon STAY FREE! has. (i took matador's magnet home, then phoned them to say "sorry, i'll come by yr office if you give me another one & i'll put it back in soho." they never returned my message. *if* accutron were still working there he'da gotten bk to me toute de suite.
