The Stork

NinapaleystorkAt a Fourth of July party this weekend, I saw this hilarious animated short by Nina Paley. I'm not going to describe it; just watch it.

Nina has been working on a bunch of cool stuff, in fact, which you can read about on her website.

for a talented animator so in love with the people, land and culture of India, i can't help but think maybe the lugubrious "population problem" message would better fit that very nation more than our own.

I don't think she's just commenting on the overpopulation problem, but the decidedly American assumption that when we have a baby, Baby's needs come before all else. Baby needs to be safe in an SUV, baby needs space, Baby needs to grow up in a safe neighborhood and go to a good school. Baby becomes an excuse to consume, and everyone's okay with it because it's what Baby needs.

I also like "The Wit and Wisdom of Cancer" -- Nina is awesome.
