Frappuccino and brimstone

A friend sent me this from Decatur, Georgia — where apparently
the Lord Himself gets second billing to Starbucks.

I wonder if that's a real sign? There are a couple of online church-sign generators out there.

I'm sure it's real. A close friend of mine in Georgia shot it with her digital camera and sent it to me personally.

But online church-sign generators, eh?
The internets are crazy places.

Real or not, I don't find it surprising. I see so many churches now that have gone corporate, or new ones that are that way from the start. They have slick professionally designed logos, and offer purchased and tested programs like DivorceCare®. It seems that so many people now like their religion as a product to be consumed, rather than being any sort of journey or search for truth.

There was an article in the Wall Street Journal a couple weeks ago about the sandwich chain Subway expanding into all kinds of non-traditional spaces. Among them were churches. I think the other part of this problem is that churches who have seen their attendance and donations dropping are easy prey to corporate interests who want to expand their "presence".
