26th Anniversary + 2 Days R.I.P.
Just heard John Lennon's "Happy Xmas (War Is Over)" on the radio. Thirty-five years after its release, the song is as moving and relevant as ever this holiday season. But upon this listen, I was struck by a quirk of the opening lyrics: "So this is Xmas/And what have you done/Another year over/And a new one just begun."
Not to quibble with one of our great modern poet-philosophers, but, hey, is it Christmas? Or is it New Year's? Sure, "done" rhymes with "begun." But if the year has already begun…well, you catch my drift. Perhaps "So this is Xmas/And a war we're not winning/Another year almost over/And a new one soon beginning" would've cleared things up. Just my two cents.
If John was still with us, I'd post this as a comment on his myspace page. After thanking him for the add.

So you know, two years ago 8 December took a new meaning. It is also the day when guitar mastermind "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott was shot to death onstage along with Nathan Bray, Erin Halk and Jeff "Mayhem" Thompson.
By the hands of one Nathan Gale, who was shot to death at the scene by a police officer.
Keep in mind how music was changed by Lennon's death and how again it has been redefined by Dimebag's murder.
There is a new generation, there is new hate and their is new calls for peace.

What he meant - along with Lennon.
Thank you for your time man, understand that love comes in many forms... and this tears me like you cannot believe

Unless you celebrate the new year with the Winter Solstice... then the lyric makes more sense.

"Dimebag" Darrell Abbott? Are you kidding?! "December 8th took on new meaning..."?! Yeah, I feel sorry Abbott was killed, but comparing it to Lennon? As for Pantera in Russia; Christ, that place is so clueless you could put Twisted Sister there and those vodka-swilling fucktards would go wild.
